Masterclasses are a rare opportunity

Advance your professional and personal ceramics practice.

Welcome to Mayfield Studios transformative ceramics program. Under the expert guidance of Nicholas Hannah, this initiative is designed to elevate both professional and personal development for pottery teachers and serious practitioners.

Masterclass Information:

Join our ongoing drop-in pottery masterclasses, where each session seamlessly builds upon the last, offering a continuous learning experience. Don’t worry if you can only attend a single class—each workshop is designed to stand alone while still contributing to your overall artistic development.

Workshops may cover a range of techniques, including throwing, trimming, glaze development, and the structural assembly of pieces. With a focus on both creative expression and skill-building, you’ll have the opportunity to explore various aspects of pottery and refine your craft.

Throughout the course, we encourage you to creatively develop your unique artistic voice, drawing inspiration from art history while honing your technical abilities. Regular critique sessions and group discussions provide valuable feedback, allowing you to gain fresh perspectives on both your work and your approach to teaching. This program offers a comprehensive toolkit to invigorate both your classroom and personal art practices, setting a path for growth as an artist and educator.

Meet the expert

Nick has been making wheel-thrown tableware since 2012, moving from a photography career after discovering the joy of clay. He studied under Jane Sawyer at Slow Clay in Melbourne, and spent time at the National Art School in Sydney before working closely with his creative mentors, including Prue Venables, Chester Nealie, and Sandy Lockwood.

His work is inspired by a love of useful objects, the search for an essential beauty, and the breath of the sea. Teaching pottery offers an opportunity to share the deep connections that clay creates - with the world and within our daily rituals.

Nick believes that through thoughtful, handcrafted objects we can create a deeper engagement with the world around us. His greatest wish is to encourage moments of quiet contemplation and joy in the rhythms of daily life.
